Alan W. Babcock

Alan W. Babcock, age 68 , of No Mans Land Road passed away on Thursday , January 24, 2019 , in his home of natural causes .

Alan was born on April 6, 1950 , in Cooperstown , first born son of the late Gerald W. and Edna M. ( Young ) Babcock. He was raised on the family farm in Burlington Flats and educated at Richfield Springs Central School , graduating in 1968. After high school he attended Cornell University . Alan spent most of his life as a third-generation dairy farmer working on the Speckle Acres Farm. At one time he was married to the former Barbara Seamon , then later to Dr. Pamela Lea .

He was a life-long outdoorsman who truly enjoyed hunting and fishing . He was a m ember of the N ational Rifle Association and a passionate gun collector . He was at the forefront of the organic movement and an enthusiastic canner and maple syrup maker. He loved history , political debate, and astronomy . He was an avid reader of The Wall Street Journal, non-fiction, and the Bible .

Surviving him are two sons , Scott Babcock of Florida and Ashton Lea Babcock of Schuyler Lake, and two daughters , Laura Butler of Florida and Skyler Lea Babcock of Schuyler Lake ; a brother Dr. Gary Babcock of Watertown ; nieces Lindsay (Babcock) Griffith of Ithaca and Ivy (Babcock) Allen of Horseheads ; two grandchildren ; and several cousins .

Calling hours for Mr. Babcock will be Saturday February 2 nd from 2:00 to 4:00 pm in the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home , 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. A funeral service will follow calling hours at 4:00 pm with the Pastor Sharon Rankins-Burd of the Schuyler Lake United Methodist Church officiat ing . He will be interred later this spring in Exeter Center Cemetery.
