Barbara Kim Byington passed away at the age of 87 at her residence in the Bronx that she shared with her companion Mark Fleischner. She was born in Galveston, TX on February 26, 1938 to parents Clarence and Emma (Fredrick) Byington. Her family moved about and eventually settled on Angel Hill in Schuyler Lake.


Barbara graduated from Richfield Springs Central School. After high school she attended Maryland College. Barbara joined the Peace Corp. Afterward, she received a degree in Education and worked as a teacher on military bases teaching in Germany, Okinawa, the Philippines, and eventually landed in Yonkers teaching at Rye Neck School District.

Barbara's home base was always Richfield Springs where her sister Pat lived. She purchased a home three doors down, renovated it where she spent many summers.


Barbara's hobbies included tending to her house plants, flower beds, and playing tennis. She loved traveling and sometimes took a sabbatical to travel to Belize, Galapagos Islands, and later to Israel.

Barbara was a very giving person and helped many in need. She never hesitated to help her nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, along with her friends' children with whom she cared for, and helped along the way.

She is survived by her sister Patricia Jean (Byington) Smith & husband Ray, and step brother Daniel Bauman & wife Susan. Along with so many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews who absolutely loved "Aunt Barbara".
She is predeceased by her parents Clarence and Emma Byington. Her brothers and sisters: Kate, Butch, Ralph, Marion, Joann, James, Marjorie, and many loved nieces and nephews.

A family gathering will take place at her home in Richfield Springs in early September.
