RICHFELD SPRINGS-Beverly Olmsted , age 92 , passed away peacefully on Saturday morning , January 16, 2021 , in the comfort of her home with her loving family and caregiver Terry Parkhurst at her side.
She was born on June 19, 1928 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Paul H. and Doris H. Smith Crego. She was raised in Newport and was a graduate of West Canada Valley High School. She furthered her education at SUNY at Potsdam where she majored in music. When she left Potsdam, she returned to Newport and studied music under Johann Magand a nz . O n June 12, 1948 she was united in marriage to Lester T. Olmsted in the Newport United Methodist Church. In 1960 they moved to Richfield Springs. Beverly first worked teaching piano and music theory in Newport . After she and Lester moved to Richfield Springs , s he went to work for the Fen imore Art Museum in Cooperstown. She retired in 2011 as assistant to the Chief Executer Office and Curator after For ty- four years of dedicated service. Mrs. Olmsted had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs. She also had memberships with the Richfield Springs Garden Club, the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and had served as Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Newport .
To all who knew her , they will never forget a kind, caring and helpful lady. She was always ready to give a helping hand while looking for nothing in return. She will be s adly missed.
Surviving are her loving husband of seventy-two years Lester, a daughter, Brenda Petty of Woodgate, a son-in-law, Darren Carden as , two grandchildren, Michael Petty and Elizabeth Petty Cardena s , one great granddaughter, Tabitha Carde n as , a brother-in-law, Walter Olmsted, Jr. of Williams, AZ, two cousins, David Hunt and Marian Thayer. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Maryl ee J. Olmsted , son-in-law, Tom Petty, and sister-in-law Shirley Casler .
Calling hours and funeral service for Mrs. Olmsted will be later this spring at a date and time to be announced. The family would like to express a special thank you to Helios Care Organization for their wonderful service given during Bev's illness.
