Brian Richard Mackin

RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Brian Richard Mackin , age 70, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday morning, January 6, 2022 at Little Falls Hospital.

He was born on June 22, 1951, in Herkimer, son of the late Leo B. and Carrie Guido Mackin .  A lifelong T own of Columbia resident, he was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School.  Brian was a man with a reputation for being a hard worker.  When he finis hed high school, for twenty years he worked for Union Fork and Hoe in Frankfort. He t hen operated and owned the Mackin Dairy Farm for eight years in the Town of Columbia. After retiring from farming, he worked for twelve years as a machinist for the Reming ton Arms Company in Ilion. He officially entered final retirement in 2017.

On July 8, 1972, he was united in marriage to the former Helene Louise Fuller in St. Joseph and Patrick's RC Church in Utica.  They made their home in the Town of Columbia.  Brian h ad a strong faith in God and was a member of St. Joseph the Worker RC Church in Richfield Springs.

In his leisure time he enjoyed collecting toy tractors and farm equipment.  He also enjoyed giving his grandchildren tractor rides. To all who knew him, they will never forget a humble man with a strong work ethic.  Any conversation with him was straight and to the point, yet you always felt his warmth and friendship whenever you were with him.  He will be truly missed.

Surviving him are his devoted wife of fo rty-nine years, Helene Mackin , a daughter, Nancy Ann Lamon and her husband, Daniel of Bedford, NH, one brother, Leo B. Mackin , Jr. and his wife Catherine of Richfield Springs, two sisters, Annette Mackin and her husband Gary Bagley of Rochester, Maria Mackin and her husband David Carter of Scottville, three gran dchildren, Amanda, Samuel and Jaxen Lamon all of Bedford, NH, several, nieces, nephews and cousins.  Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Mackin .

Calling hours for Mr. Mackin will be on Wednesday, from 4:00 until 6:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home; 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 11:00 am in St. Joseph the Worker Church Richfield Springs.  The Reverend Randell Torres, pastor will officiate.  In terment in St. Joseph Cemetery will take place later this spring.
