MOHAWK – Carol Jean Stone, 69, of Mohawk, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, September 14, 2026, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, with her loving husband, "Stoney," and family by her side.

Carol was born on October 26, 1956, in Ilion, New York, to the late Ernest L. and Pearl A. (Snyder) Waldruff. She was raised and educated in Richfield Springs, graduating from Richfield Springs High School. In 1976, she was united in marriage with Terrence R. “Stoney” Stone, beginning a blessed and loving union of over fifty years, raising two daughters in Mohawk, NY. Above all, she was a deeply loyal friend whose presence will be missed by all who knew her.

A true free spirit, Carol possessed a vibrant warmth that naturally brought people together. She cherished spending time celebrating life with her many friends, tending to her garden, cooking delicious meals, taking day trips in the sidecar of her husband's Harley—often accompanied by their dog, traveling with her daughters and friends, and hanging out in the "she-shed". She was also an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Crowley Barnum Post 25, American Legion. For many years, Carol worked as a dedicated dental assistant for Dr. David Zilka, DDS, in Herkimer.

She is survived by her devoted husband of fifty years, Terrence "Stoney" Stone; her two daughters, Shannon Stone and her husband, Zach Keenan, of Suffield, Connecticut, and Terra Stone and her husband, Ryan Talbot, of Frankfort; her sister, Ellen MacIntosh of Richfield Springs; many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her cherished dog, Kiki.

Carol was preceded in death by her brother, Barry Waldruff.

A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at the Crowley Barnum Post 25 American Legion, located at 43 West Main Street, Mohawk, NY on Saturday, September 19th at 2:00pm in the bar area.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs, NY.
