Donald E. Chamberlain

RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Donald E. Chamberlain, age 78, passed away peacefully Sunday January 25, 2026, in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown.

Donald was born in Cooperstown to the late Edwin D. and Bertha Gage Chamberlain. He grew up in Pleasant Brook and graduated from Cherry Valley Central School in 1965. He was married to his high school sweetheart Susan L. Vrooman for 47 years until her death in 2015.  After high school Donald served our nation in the United States Air Force. The family settled in Ilion and then moved to Richfield Springs in 1978. Donald was a supervisor with Remington Arms in Ilion and retired after 38 years of service in 2005.

Donald was an avid reader, loved boating, and his beloved Husky Mya. He is survived by his daughter Lisa Chamberlain of Williamsburg, VA, son Nathan (Danielle) Chamberlain of Hampstead, NC, a brother James (Cindy) Chamberlain of Timberlake, NC, a sister Violet Galuska of Canajoharie, four grandchildren, Jack Yeman, Kevin (Sophia) Chamberlain, Kelly Chamberlain, Kyle Chamberlain and a great granddaughter Scarlett Chamberlain, a niece Michelle (Mark) Fowler, two nephews Glen (Anita) Warner, and Christopher (Esther) Vrooman, his longtime companion Sharon Donnelly, as well as many great nieces and nephews. A special thank you from the family to close friends Bobby and Jen.

A graveside service for Mr. Chamberlain will be held on Saturday, May 16 at 1 PM at Slate Hill Cemetery, in SharonSprings. Reverend Michael Guzik, S.J. will preside at the service. All are welcome.
