Edward Vander Voort

RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Edward James Vander Voort , age 86, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday evening , May 4, 2022 after an extended illness.  His devoted family was at his side.

He was born on August 5, 1935, in Binghamton, a son of the late Cami el and Anna Mae ( Barnicle ) Vander Voort . Ed was raised in Hancock and was a graduate of Hancock Central School .  He continued his education attending Notre Dame University in Indiana.  On August 25, 1954 , he was united in marriage to the f ormer Mary Vetrone in Hancock.  T hey made their home in Owego until August of 1964 when they moved to Richfield Springs.  For twenty-two years, Mr. Vander Voort owned and operated the NAPA Auto Parts Store in Richfield Springs.   He sold the store and retired in 1995.  Ed will always be remembered for having a strong sense of community.  He was a member of the Richfield Springs Rotary Club and enjoyed coaching the Richfield Springs Little League.  He was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family, especially his ten cherished grandchildren and eleve n gr e at -grandchildren. He was a caring family man and an honest businessman and he will be truly missed.

Surviving are his loving wife of 6 7 years Mary, a son Edward Vander Voort of Baldwinsville, three daughters , Therese Pearce, Anne Hutter and her husband Peter, Carol Vander Voort all of Baldwinsville, a special daughter-in-law Diane Vander Voort McGrath of Cherry Valley and her husband Frank ; ten grandchildren , Sam, Alexa, Edward, Stephanie, Eric, Lindsay, Christian, Haley, David, and Devon ; eleven great-grandchildren , and many nieces, nephews and several cousins.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son , David Vander Voort , a brother , Cam iel and a sister , Ann Possemato . The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs, to receive relatives and friends on Saturday May 7 th from 1:00 until 2:00 pm. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 2:00 p.m.   Interment will be on Monday at 1:00 pm in Cherry Valley C emetery. As an alternative to flower offerings, Mr. Vander Voort's family requests that m emorial donations in his name may be made to Helios Care, 927 River Street Service Rd, Oneonta, NY 13820 , be considered.
