Frances Hazelton

Loving words from her cherished family and friends guided Frances "Fran" Kay Hazelton to a final union with her husband Bob on Friday, February 25, 2022. Patriotic and spiritual music provided comfort, and an anointing of grace released her as she was embraced by her daughter and grandson in Tennessee.

Born in Cooperstown, Fran's journey began April 4, 1943. Fran always encouraged deep loyalty to family, friends and community. She graduated from Cooperstown Central School (1960) and remained an enthusiastic alumna, forging enduring friendships with classmates. Fran worked at Smith Ford as Assistant Office Manager before retiring as Treasurer for Richfield Springs Central School where she eagerly worked for decades.  Fran also served as the school's yearbook advisor for a number of years.  She was a lifelong learner, and even earned her License Class Technician Amateur Radio license (WB2OQH Silent Key).

Known to be a talented seamstress, knitter, and crocheter, Fran became a fantastic quilter, making over 300 quilts for gifts and donations. Her uniquely designed heirlooms were adorned with labels featuring a meaningful story about the quilt or a special message to the recipient, thoughtfully handwritten and stitched to the back.

Her love of America grew as she traveled, and she proudly shared her sense of patriotism. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #616 in Richfield for over 50 years. She enjoyed historical and genealogical research which helped her become an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and also served as Secretary of the Richfield Springs Historical Association & Museum.

During Fran's 78-year "very good" journey, she appreciated her family immensely, and leaves favorite son Brian and wife Helen of San Tan Valley, AZ; daughters Brenda Lavieri and husband Dr. Ed of Tullahoma, TN; Lisa Hazelton-Grantham and husband Mike of Clarksville, IA; and Pamela Hazelton and husband Joe Monks of Cape Coral, FL. Granddaughter Dené Stephenson of Clovis, NM and grandson Seth Stephenson of Sonora, TX; grandson Josh Burton and wife Noel along with great grandchildren, Colt and Marissa of Normandy, TN, who hold special memories of their "Quilt Grammy." Extended-family grandchildren include Jeremy (Amber) Grantham, and Brianna Grantham; great-grandchildren Peighton, Bolton, Bentley, Jaxen, and Bonnie. Fran will be missed by her younger siblings John Butler, Lisa Ellsworth, and Rita Hann.  She was predeceased by her parents and siblings Marian, Stephen, Sally, and Mark.

Fran's friendships with Connie Nassar, Donna Sims, Bob and Robin Moshier, and Sue and Clark Clapper will remain in the family's hearts, as will her lifelong Tanner Hill Smith family.

Memorial Service 1 PM Saturday, May 14th at Fly Creek Valley Cemetery. Fran's Life Celebration to follow at Cornfield Hall.

A Remembrance Reception will also be held 1-3 PM Sunday, May 15th at the Richfield Springs Vets Club.
