RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Genevieve M. Smith "Genny", age 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, March 29, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica.  She had the comfort and support of her loving family at her side.

She was born on April 17, 1929, in Herkimer, daughter of the late Frank and Ida (Sedleska) Kasprowich.  A lifelong arearesident she was raised and educated in Richfield Springs, graduating High School with the class of 1947.  On June 12, 1947, she was united in marriage to Edward Smith.  They made their home   in Richfield Springs.  For 58 years they shared aloving and devoted union until his passing on July 12, 2006.  For 21 years she was employed by Mohawk Data Sciences in quality control until retiring in 2013.  Mrs. Smith had a strong belief in God and was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker RC Church in Richfield Springs.  For many years she was an Election Board Inspector for Otsego County.  In her leisure time she enjoyed crocheting afghans, reading and doing search word puzzles.  She was also a nanny for two children, Sadie and Henry Michaels and was affectionaly known to them as "Grandma Gen".  To all who knew Genny found her to be happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She will be truly missed.

Surviving her are one son, Richard Smith and his wife Ann of Richfield Springs, a brother, Anthony and his wife Kathy of Springfield, eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Besides her parents and husband she is preceded in death by her daughter, Diana Couchman, a brother, Frank Kasprowich and his wife Barbara, her sister, Helen Polinski.

Calling hours for Mrs. Smith will be on Monday April 10 th from 5:00 until 7:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday April 11 th at 11:30 am in Saint Joseph the Worker RC Church, Richfield Springs with The Reverend Rendell Torres, pastor officiating.  Interment will be on Wednesday May 24, 2023 in Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Richfield Springs at 2:00 pm.  Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to The Mohawk Homestead, 62 East Main Street; Mohawk, NY 13407.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
