CASSVILLE – Joan Marie Ames, age 71, passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 19, 2025 in her home, she had the loving comfort of her family by her side at the time of her passing.

Joan was born on March 28, 1953 in Cooperstown, a daughter to the late Harold M. and Maxine A. Congdon Armstrong. She was raised and educated in Richfield Springs and a graduate of Richfield Springs High School with the Class of 1971. After high school, Joan continued her education at SUNY Cobleskill where she obtained an Associates Degree in Secretarial Science. On September 14, 1985 she married Gregory Ames in the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs, a blessed and loving union of thirty-nine years. For many years she was a Data Processor for the County of Otsego and in 1987 she stepped aside to raise her four sons. Joan took great pride in raising her boys.

Joan was one who loved to be with people, anytime with her children and grandchildren she enjoyed the most. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved to go walking. Numerous times she participated in the Walk for Life event. Joan loved singing. She sang with the Community Singers of West Windfield for years. She loved to watch the birds and listen to their songs. She loved the sound and being by the ocean. She had a heart for veterans and the unborn. She loved watching movies that would make you cry. But most of all she loved listen to the Word of God and to sing worship songs to Jesus and just lift her hands to Him.

Besides her husband Greg, she is survived by her four sons; Zachary Ames of Richfield Springs, Nathan Ames of Cassville, Isaac Ames and his wife Emmaline of Richfield Springs, Caleb Ames of Cassville, two brothers; Harold Armstrong, Jr. and his wife Trish of Albany, Kenneth Armstrong and his wife Gloria of Fruitland, Florida, four sisters; Bonnie Starr of New Castle, Colorado, Sandra Maxson and her husband Thomas of Richfield Springs, Patricia Ray and her husband Scott of Arlington, Texas, Brenda Jo Elmer of New York Mills, eight grandchildren; Jonathan, Gracelyn, Gia, Isabella, Jared, Elijah. Elijah, Boaz, Piper, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service for Mrs. Ames will be held on Saturday May 17th at 2:00pm in the Unadilla Forks Baptist Church 2068 State Highway 8, Leonardsville.

Her funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs.
