RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Joan M. Decker, age 88, of County Highway 25A, passed away on Friday MorningAugust 16, 2024 in Wynn Hospital, Utica. She had the loving comfort of her family by her side at the time of her passing.

Joan was born April 6, 1936 in Sauquoit, a daughter of the late C. Frederick and Ella Loomis Wright. She was raised and educated in Sauquoit. On March 23, 1953 she married James C. Decker in Waterville a blessed union of seventy-one years. They moved to Richfield Springs after they were married.

She was a homemaker dedicated to her family. Joan loved gardening especially growing flowers in her beautiful flower beds. You could occasionally find her outdoors singing to the birds. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, word finds, putting together jigsaw puzzles and baking her delicious pies and zucchini bread with her granddaughters, Kellie and Jayce. She loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, affectionately known as "GG".

A friend to many and she will never be forgotten.

Surviving are her husband James, two sons; James C. Decker, Jr. of Hartwick, Jason Decker and his wife Natalie of Richfield Springs, two daughters; Linda Knapp of West Winfield and Jo-Ann Schook of Frankfort. 14 grandchildren, Staci, Tamara, Jessica, LeAnn, Felicia, John, Jessica, Jeffrey, Jacob, Melissa, David, Michael, Kellie and Jayce. Many great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter Susan, brother Richard Wright, sister Clara Meleon, son in law Douglas Knapp and great grandson Douglas.

Calling hours for Mrs. Decker will be on Thursday August 22nd from 3:00-5:00pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. A funeral service will be held at a later time privately and convenient to the family.
