Joan Marie Haggerty

HERKIMER – Joan Marie Haggerty, age 69, passed away peacefully on Monday, Septemb er 24, 2018 at her daughter home in Dolgeville .  She was surrounded with the love and support of her family at the time of her passing.

She was born on February 24, 1949 in Oneonta, a daughter of the late Marvin and Avelyne Becraft  Greiner.  She  was raised and educated in Laurens.

On July 25, 1987 she married James R. Haggerty, Sr. in Cedarville.  They shared a devoted union of thirty-two years until his passing on May 11, 2009.  She often spoke fondly of the years she was employed as a butcher at the former Herkimer Chief Market.  After her retirement she babysat o ut o f her home.  Joan cherished and was proud of all the children she watched. However Joan's true love and devotion was her family.  She was matriarch of the family.  Her passion in life being her grandchildren and family , "Nana" never missed a game, concert or any important family function or gathering and a lways with a bag of M&M in tow.  Joan also enjoyed the ocean, campin g, cooking and playing cards.  Her favorite place to spend time was at the family camp in Forestport. She was a friend to many and will be greatly missed.

Surviving are her daughter Shelliann Williams and her husband Ralph of Dolgeville, step-sons, James Haggerty Jr. and his wife Emelie, Roger Haggerty and his wife Sinia, her siblings, Ernest Greiner, and his wife Cherylyn, Marvin Greiner and his wife Raelyn, Avelyne Sheffler and her husband Clayton, George Greiner and his wife Melodie, Linda Smith, her grandchildren, Alyssa Williams, Olivia Williams, Isabella Williams, Ashlynn Williams, Zachary Williams, Hannah Haggerty, Joanna Haggerty, Sean Haggerty, Roger Haggerty, Jessica York, Jennifer Cummings, Great Grandchildren , Avalynn Brys, Myla Brys and Antonio Huffman, including cherished family members, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A "Celebration o f Live" will be held on Friday, September 28 th at 3:00 p.m. in the Polish Community Home on South Washington Street Herkimer.  Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery will be private and at the convenience3 of the family.

There are no calling hours.  Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home Inc., Herkimer.
