John C. Woudenberg

RICHFIELD SPRINGS-John C. Woudenberg , age 89 , passed away peacefully after a short illness on Sunday morning , February 14, 2021 , in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown.

He was born on September 15, 1931 , in Passaic, New Jersey, son of the late Marinus and Elizabeth VanGenderen Woudenberg. John was raised and educated at Eastern Christian Academy in Haledon, NJ .  Upon completing his education he enlisted in the US Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on May 24, 19 55 , attaining the rank of Airman First Class .  On November 29, 1952 , he was united in marriage to the former Dorothy J. Pontier in Passaic, NJ. John and Dorothy moved to Richfield Springs in 1967 coming from Wycoff , NJ. They shared a devoted union of forty-eight years until her passing on Decem ber 15, 2000. For twenty-six years John was employed as a planner for the Remington Arms Company in Ilion. He retired in 1993. Mr. Woudenberg, had a strong belief in God and had the distinction of being the last living charter member of the Richfield Springs Bible Church. He was also a member of the Richfield Springs American Legion Post.

On July 13, 2002 he married the former Paula Traphagen in Richfield Springs.  Together they enjoyed time with each other and their families, especially their cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To all who knew him, they will never forget, a warm, caring and gentle man who loved people and his Lord. He will be truly missed.

Surviving are his loving wife of eighteen years Paula, four sons, Ronald Woudenberg and his wife Sherry of Prattsburgh, Robert Woudenberg and his wife Karen of Virginia Beach, VA, William Baker and his wife Lori of Milford, Timothy Baker of Cazenovia, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday May 22 at 12:00pm in the Richfield Springs Bible Church, and interment with military honors will follow in Twilight Rest Cemetery.  Expressions of sympathy may be mad e with memorial donations to the Richfield Springs Bible Church, PO Box 907; Richfield Springs, NY 13439.  Envelopes will be available at the church service.   Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield, NY.
