Lamott K. Smith

MOHAWK – LaMott K Smith, age ninety-three (93), passed peacefully on Sunday morning December 31, 2023, at the Wynn Hospital in Utica, NY. He was born on July 21, 1930, in Ilion, son of the late Floyd and Helen Hubbard Smith. A lifelong area resident, he was raised and educated in Mohawk.

On May 20, 1950, he was united in marriage to Yvonne P. Long in Ilion, NY. They made their first home on McKoons Road in the town of Columbia until moving to Mohawk in 1995. For most of his adult life LaMott (known more as Tweet or Smitty) worked in the automobile industry (30+ years), first as a Bodyshop man for Skinner & Welch and then later as an appraiser/adjuster for various insurance companies, ending his career with State Farm Insurance.

His passion and love were hunting, fishing, golfing, collecting antiques, and working around his home along with watching his beloved New York Yankees and playing cards with family and friends. He and Yvonne enjoyed their new home and took much pride in manicuring and landscaping their new residence. Those talents gave both of them a feeling of warmth and comfort to all who visited the Smith home. LaMott was happiest when he was surrounded by his family and friends, especially his cherished children, 18 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 2 great/great grandchildren. He and Yvonne had been married for sixty-six years. Yvonne passed away in 2017. He will be sadly missed. Memories will always keep him alive and in our hearts. We have the comfort of knowing that he and mom are reunited, may they rest in peace.

Preceding him in death is his wife Yvonne, daughter Sheila, grandson, John Michael (Mikey) Seamon and a Son-In-Law, William (Billy) Seamon. Also preceding him in death were his five brothers – Walter, Gareth (Red), Floyd Jr., Norman, and Aubrey (Obbie). His remaining siblings are his sister Audrey and a sister-in-law Beatrice.

Surviving are three sons, Floyd "Skip" Smith and his wife Cheryl of North Carolina, LaMott K Smith Jr. and his wife Robin of Virginia, and Lorne Smith and his wife Jennifer of Virginia; three daughters, Yvette and John Seamon of Schuyler Lake, Juanita and Raymond Rose of West Winfield, and Robin and (William) Seamon of Monticello. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service for Mr. Smith will be on Saturday May 18th at 1:00pm in Highland Rural Cemetery.
