Langdon Anderson Ames

Langdon Anderson Ames, better known as "Lanny," 83, died Thursday, February 24th, 2022 after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Lanny was born on November 26th,1938, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, NY to the late Murry and Florence (née Roberson) Ames of Richfield Springs. He attended Richfield Springs Central School and graduated with the class of 1956. While in high school, he was an active participant in the Future Farmers of America and eventually went on to study Agriculture and Nutrition at Morrisville State College. On May 24th, 1958, after meeting the love of his life, he married Donna (née Leonard) Ames.

Lanny was notoriously known as a hard worker. Growing up he diligently maintained Contour Meadows, the family dairy farm, assuming ownership in 1976. In addition to his work on the farm, he proudly served in the New York National Guard. While serving nationally, he also stayed dedicated to his hometown and served on various committees over the course of his lifetime. He served on the town board for 32 years, was a member and the last Master of the Richfield Grange 771, and was an active member of the Farm Bureau, alongside many other committees. Lanny was a faithful and loving man who attended St. John's Episcopal Church and the Richfield Springs Bible Church with his wife.

Ever loyal to his hometown, he could often be found telling stories, sharing a laugh, or providing smiles to those around him at the Tally-Ho. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, reading the newspaper, catching up on sports—both local and national—and spending time with his loving family.

Lanny wasn't one to sit around and quote scripture, instead he put into practice what he believed by showing immense integrity, a caring and personable heart, continuously going the extra mile to help those in need, and always following through with the task at hand.

Other than his adoring parents, he was predeceased by his younger sister Marilyn Sayles of Cranston, RI.

Lanny is survived by his older sister Bertha and brother-in-law Thomas Blair, his devoted wife of 63 years, Donna, and their six wonderful children: Douglas and Linda (née Kreis), and their four daughters: Shannon (Andrew) Ames Fuller, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Amanda; Bradley and Ruth (née Thomas), and their daughter Cassandra; Gregory and Joan (née Armstrong), and their four sons: Zachary, Nathan, Caleb, and Isaac (Emmaline); Sharon and Gilbert Frontella, and her two daughters Leann (Robert) Fogarty and Felicia (Drake) Fullerton; Carol and Timothy Wright, and their three children: Timothy II, Tabitha, and Peter; and finally, Janet and James Sylvester, and their four children: Megan (Michael) Marzeski, Christian, Seth, and Morgan (Tyler) Steere. Lanny is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren with three additions expected this summer, as well as many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

Calling hours will be held Saturday March 5th at the Richfield Springs Bible Church from 10 am to 12 pm with a funeral service following. A reception will be held at the church directly following the funeral.
