RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Lester G. Fort age 71 of Ostrander Road, Richfield Springs passed away early Sunday Morning April 12, 2026, in his home. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.

Lester was born on October 27, 1954 in Cobleskill, a son of the late Guy L. and Idella Empie Fort. He was raised in Middlefield Center and attended Cherry Valley School. He was a builder, a designer and a foreman for over forty-three years for Titan Homes in Sangerfield.

He was truly a family man, he loved his family and really enjoyed being with them. Once he met you, he treated you like family and you couldn't walk away from him without a hug and doing five goodbyes. Lester loved music and would quiz you on naming the artist right on the spot, hopefully you knew the answer! Lester was always known to have a few drinks in his hands and loved to party with anyone anywhere. He spent a lot of time doing crossword puzzles, scratch-off tickets or shooting a game of shoes. Lastly to mention, his beloved dog Charlie, Charlie was right by his side and even right on the bed with him up to the end. He was a friend to many and will never be forgotten.

In 1983 he married Wendy Bala after falling in love with her and her family. Besides his wife of forty two years, Wendy, he is survived by two sons Keith Bala of Clayville, Lester G. Fort, III and his wife A.J. of Palatine Bridge, two daughters Angela Chadwell and her husband Jeff of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Vickie Fort of Fort Plan, a brother Ronnie Jameson of Cherry Valley, two sisters Deb Scott and her husband Douglas of Fort Lupton, Colorado, Diane Mondore and her husband Gerry of Pueblo, Colorado, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several extended family members.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson Haden Fort.

The family has chosen to not hold any services at this time and a celebration of life for Lester is being planned for later this summer, at a time to be announced.

Arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home Inc. 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs.
