RICHFIELD SPRINGS-Margaret "Peg" Couchman age 87 of Earlville, formerly of Canadarago Street, Richfield Springs, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday afternoon August 13, 2015 in the Hamilton Hospital. She was born on August 19, 1927 in Ilion, daughter of the late Allyn C. and Beatrice F. Merritt West. Peg was raised in Ilion and graduated from Ilion High School with the class of 1946. On May 5, 1946 she was united in marriage with Lee S. Couchman in South Columbia. Together they shared a loving and devoted union of fifty-six years until his passing on April 13, 2003. For thirty-five years Mrs. Couchman was a self-employed Housekeeper, caring for many homes in the Richfield Springs area. She retired in 2007. Peggy had a strong belief in God and was an active member of the Richfield Springs Bible Church. She taught Sunday school and had served as chairwoman of the Christian Women's Club. To all who knew her she was a loving, caring and helpful person who was always ready to help those in need while looking for nothing in return. She will be sadly missed by her many friends and family, especially her cherished children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren. Surviving are her daughter with whom she resided for the past two and a half years, Cynthia Hoffman and her husband Ronald of Earlville, two sons Jon Kit Couchman and his wife Diana of Hopkinsville, KY, Kerry L. Couchman and his wife Bonnie of Pittsfield, MA, five grandchildren, Steffani Hope Webb of Sherburne, Kenneth Lee Couchman and his wife Jennifer of Oklahoma City, OK, Brenden Paul Couchman and his wife Jennifer of Hopkinsville, KY, Stephen Lee Couchman and Alethea Jean Couchman both of Pittsfield, MA, eight great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Lee she was preceded in death by a brother, Alan West. Calling hours for Mrs. Couchman will be on Tuesday from 10:00 am until noon in the Richfield Springs Bible Church, 17 Church Street; Richfield Springs. Funeral service will be immediately at the conclusion of the visiting hours at 12:00 noon. The Church Pastor David Tosi will officiate with the assistance of Pastor Alan Miller. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Richfield Springs Bible Church. Envelopes will be available at the church.
