COOPERSTOWN – Marilyn Louise Hext, age 77 of Cooperstown formerly of Richfield Springs passed away peacefully on Monday Evening July 12, 2021 in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown.
She was born November 12, 1943 in Cooperstown a daughter of the late Gordon D. and Laura F. Congdon Pierson. She was raised and educated in Richfield Springs and a graduate of Richfield Springs High School. On June 25, 1966 in Christ Episcopal Church she married Gregory Hext a blessed union of 52 years until his passing in 2019. Marilyn was a receptionist at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. She had the notoriety at the time to be the longest serving employee with 43 years of service.
She is survived by he daughter Laurie Hext of Richfield Springs, their adopted daughter Helene Ejdestam and her husband Lars Erickson of Sweden, a son Ashley Ross Matteson and his wife Sandy of Sierra Vista, Arizona. She is also survived by two brothers-in-law, sister-in-laws, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband Greg she was preceded in death by a sister Lois Jones and two brothers Gordon and Duane Pierson.
A funeral service for Mrs. Hext will be held on July 24, 2021 at 2:00 pm in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 317 Gros Boulevard, East Herkimer. Burial will take place at a time convenient to the family.
Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs.
