Marilyn Ough

RICHFIELD SPRINGS /FREEVILLE -Marilyn Ethel Ough , age 91 , passed away on Wednesday afternoon September 1, 2021 , at the Groton Community Healthcare Center, Groton.  She had the support and comfort of her loving family by her side.

Marily n was born on September 28, 1929 , at the Methodist Episcopal Hospital in Brooklyn, daughter of the late Donald R. and Ethel A. Moss Young. She was raised on Long Island and was a graduate of Hempstead High School, class of 1947. After her graduation she did office work at a printing company in New York City, then as an office manager at a neon sign company and Sperry's Credit Union.  She then was called to Binghamton to care for her maternal grandfather.  After his passing she worked at Link Division in Cost Accounting.  It was there that she met her future husband. On October 19, 1957 , she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Lewis Edwin Ough.  They shared a devoted union of forty-four years until his passing on May 13, 2002. After her children were in high school, her neighbors encouraged her to run for Town Clerk of Ulysses .  She tho ro ughly enjoyed the work but left to join her husband at his new job in the North Country .  Mrs. Ough had a true belief in God and was a member of Saint Mary's Episcopal Church in Springfield Center.  To those who knew her appreciated her strong sense of community.  She was a member and Past Matro n of Trumansburg Star Chapter # 479 Order of the Eastern Star, she was active in Girl Scouts and served as Cookie Chairman, she worked at the Gemm Shoppe, she belonged to bowling leagues, Bridge Clubs , Directress of the Altar Guild while living in Malone and a member of the Richfield Springs Seniors.  In her leisure time she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, canning and freezing vegetables from her garden, picking fruit from local farms.  In later years she made greeting cards and traveled the USA and Canada.  Marilyn will always be remembered for her delicious Chili Sauce and her warm friendship to all she met.  She will be sadly missed.

Surviving are one son, Daniel Ough and his wife Coral of Freeville, a daughter, Cynthia Cunningham of Freeville , three nieces, Kay Bruening , Marilyn Stafford, Kim Young, a nephew, David Young , and many cousins, several grandnieces and grandnephews.  Besides her parents and husband Lewis she was preceded in death by a brother, Donald R. Young Jr., a sister and brother-in-law, Anna and Al Stearns.

Funeral service will take place in Saint Mary's Episcopal Church, Springfield on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 11:00 am.  Interment will follow in Springfield Center Cemetery.
