Mary B. Callahan

RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Mary B. Callahan, age 75, of State Highway 28, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning April 6, 2023 in her home.

She was born on December 13, 1947 in West Winfield a daughter of the late Samuel F. and Madeline L. Becker Burnside. She was raised and educated in West Winfield graduating from West Winfield High School. After high school,  she attended Mohawk Valley Community College obtaining her degree.  On May 3, 1969,  she married Frank Callahan in St. Joseph's Church in Richfield Springs, a blessed union of 53 years. Mary was employed in the operating room at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown for over forty six years retiring in 2020.

Mary was active in the community, she was a member of the Richfield Springs Lions and Lioness Clubs, Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, and Richfield Springs American Legion Post No. 616 Ladies Auxiliary.

Mary loved traveling, whether it be abroad with longtime friends Sue and Erin or keeping it local with Linda, Janice, Chris & Deb. She also loved camping and spending time with her camping crew who lovingly referred to her as Mimi. Kicking off mornings with her famous bloody marys.

Besides her husband Frank, she is survived by two daughters; Jennifer Southard and her husband David of Richfield Springs, Nancy Callahan of Oneonta, a sister Martha Welden of Richfield Springs, a brother of David Burnside of Richfield Springs, a grandson David Southard and wife Nicole of Richfield Springs, her grandpuppy Zoey and great granddog Dexter.

She was preceded in death by her sister Edna Chadwell and sister in law Arlene Burnside.

A graveside funeral service for Mary (Mimi) will be held on Friday April 14 at 11:00 am in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs, with the Pastor David Simonds to officiate followed by a Celebration of Life at the Vet's Club in Richfield Springs.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory with donations to the Richfield Springs Vets Club or Richfield Springs Lions Club.
