Mary Ellen Smith

HERKIMER – Mary Ellen Smith, age 46, of Harter Street passed away on Monday Evening February 24, 2025 in Bridge Water Nursing Facility, Binghamton after a brief illness.

Mary was born on June 28, 1978 in Cooperstown a daughter to Penelope M. Chase Lum and the Late David J. Lum. She was raised and educated in Worcester and a graduate of Worcester High School. Mary assembled belts for the Adirondack Leather Company in Fly Creek. On April 14, 2014 she married Daniel Smith in Fly Creek a loving union of ten years. After marriage they lived in Richfield Springs later moving to Herkimer in 2020.

She had a strong belief in God and was a devout Christian. She loved shopping at the malls, enjoyed working and spent many hours on YouTube and Facebook.

Mary is survived by her husband Daniel, her mother Penelope Lum, a son Jason Stevens, three daughters; Kayla Stevens, Amber Stevens, Tracy Smith, a brother David Lum, Jr,, two sisters Jeannie Lum, Kelly Cadieux, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours for Mrs. Smith will be on Monday from 5:00-6:00pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs, a funeral service to follow calling hours at 6:00pm.
