RICHFIELD SPRINGS-Mortimer Douglas Robertson (Mort), age 88, passed away on Thursday afternoon October 14, 2021, at Cooperstown Center, Cooperstown with his loving wife at his side.  He was born on March 18, 1933 in Utica, son of the late William H. and Irene V. Purchase Robertson.  Mort was raised in VanHornesville and was a graduate of VanHornesville Central School with the class of 1951.  On November 19, 1954 he entered the US Army during the Berlin Crisis.  He served until October 30, 1956 being honorably discharged and attaining the rank of Private First Class.

On December 15, 1956 he was united in marriage to the former Rowena Smith in VanHornesville.  They first made their home in VanHornesville until 1960 when they moved to Richfield Springs.  Mr. Robertson had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs.  From the time he was a young boy he always had a fascination with trucks.  So in 1958 he purchased his own truck and started the Mort Robertson Bulk Milk Hauling Company.  He owned and operated the company until 1978.  He then sub contracted his truck   working independently for Dallas-Mavis Trucking of South Bend, Indiana until 1991 when he retired.  To all who knew Mort will never forget a kind, gentle and honest man.  Any conversation with him was straight and to the point yet you always felt his warmth and friendship whenever you were with him.  He will be truly missed, by his many friends and family especially, his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He survived by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Rowena, three sons, David Robertson and his wife Lorraine of Richfield Springs, Daniel Robertson of Cooperstown, Dale Robertson and Sherry of Holly Hills, FL, one daughter, Carol Ainslie and her husband Chet of Richfield Springs, a daughter-in-law, Monica Robertson and her companion Len Pickens of Richfield Springs,five grandchildren, Candice Domion, Jacob and his wife Megan, Jeremy Robertson, Kyle Robertson and Will Robertson, four great grandchildren, Alexia Luke, Aedan Osborn, Dean A. Robertson and Lincoln Robertson, several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Dean Robertson, two brothers, Donald C. and Harold S. Robertson and one sister, Evelyn Peckham.

Calling hours for Mr. Robertson will be on Thursday from 3:00 until 6:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs.  Funeral service will take place on Friday morning at 11:00 am in The Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs with The Reverend Casey Bradley, pastor officiating.   Interment with military honors provided by the US Army will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs.  Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations the Alzheimer's Association, Northeastern Chapter, c/o the Meadows Suite 2, 140 County Hwy 33 West, Cooperstown, NY 13326 or the Church of Christ Uniting, PO Box 896, Richfield Springs.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
