RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Peter Brykailo, Jr., 71 passed away peacefully on Monday evening October 8, 2018 in his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born on October 20, 1946 in Little Falls, the only child of the late Peter and Mary Spytko Brykailo, Sr. A lifelong area resident he graduated from Richfield Springs High School with the class of 1964. In 1966 he joined the US Navy and proudly served his country for three years receiving an h onorable discharge is 1969. On August 22, 1970, he was united in marriage to the former Donna Kurkowski , in St. Joseph Church, Richfield Springs. For over thirty years he had worked in telecommunication s, for Atlantic Bell/NY Telephone and for twelve years with Citizens Utilities/Frontier Communication retiring in 2010. Peter was community minded; he was a member of the American Legion, the Richfield Springs Lions Club and served as Judge for 20 years for the village and towns of Richfield Springs, and the town of Exeter. His leisure time was spent in his garden, fishing and his winter home in Florida with a group of WPA's . However his most cherished time was with his family especially his children and sitting around rocking the grandbabies. Peter had a presence that made people feel very comfortable being with him. He was always there when you need him most. Those who knew Peter knew they had a friend for life. He will be sadly missed.
Surviving are his wife, Donna, of forty-eight years, his children, Peter Brykailo and his wife Jennifer , of Waterford, Mich., Mary Brykailo, of Richfield Springs, Robert Brykailo and his wife Lisa, of Sharon Springs, and Melissa Pearce and her husband Nicholas of Liburn , GA, eight grandchildren, Bella, Bail e y, Stephen, Josh , Rob (RJ), Kendra, Elisa and Logan, sisters and brother –in-laws, several nieces, and nephews.
The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home , 40 W. James Street will be on Friday from 4:00 to 7 :00 pm to receive relatives and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday at 11:00 am in St. Joseph the Worker Church, Richfield Springs. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Richfield Springs.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with m emorial donations to the B. Thomas Golisano Hope Lodge Hospitality House, 1120 S. Goodman St. Rochester, NY 14620 . Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
