RICHFIELD SPRINGS -Ray Francis Duncan age 90 passed away peacefully on Wednesday night, January 19, 2022 in the Harding Nursing Home, Waterville.  He was born on January 12, 193 2 in Cairo, NY, son of the late Edward and Sarah Va n Bur e n Duncan.  A lifelong area resident he was raised and educated in Schuyler Lake. On November 25, 1954 he was united in marriage to the former Helen Marie Stocking in Richfield Springs.  They first made their home and started their family in Fly Creek and in 1965 moved to Richfield Springs.  In 1966 Mr. Duncan went to work for the Village of Richfield Springs . A s part of his job he cared for the Lakeview Cemetery which he took much pride in making sure that it was always a place of peace and beauty. He retired from the village in 1995 after twenty-nine years of dedicated service. I n his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, playing cards , woodworking , and making bird houses . He also liked working on lawn mowers .  He took pride in landscaping with flowers and bushes around his home.

To all who knew Ray will never forget a strong, hardworking, loving and caring man. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family. Any conversation with Ray was straight and to the point yet you always felt his warmth and friendship whenever you were with him .  He will be truly missed.

Surviving him are his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Helen, a son Raymond (Butch) Duncan and his wife Bonnie of Monticello, four daughters, Deborah Brooker and her husband Ever ett of Burlington Flats, Dale Fu rner and her husband James of Waterville, Tina Gage and her husband Dean of Richfield Springs, Patricia Augur and her husband Charles of Springfield Center, fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, seven great great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his eight brothers and three sisters.

Calling hours for Mr. Duncan will be held on Sunday , January 23rd from 4:00 until 7:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home; 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs.  A funeral se rvice will take place on Monday, January 24 th in the morning at 11:00am in the funeral home with the Reverend Ronald Fralick officiating.  Interment will be later this spring in Lakeview Cemetery.
