Richard C. Hoag

ILION — Richard C. Hoag, age 80, of North Fifth Avenue, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.

Richard was born on March 19, 1946, in Cooperstown, a son of the late Carl Christian and Lena Geneva Johnson Hoag. He was raised and educated in Springfield and graduated from Owen D. Young High School. Richard was a dairy farmer, operating the Chyle Valley Dairy Farm in Springfield until his retirement in 2018. After his retirement, he moved to Ilion.

He was a down-to-earth man, a hard worker, and was totally dedicated to dairy farming. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children. He was a friend to many and will never be forgotten.

Surviving him are two sons, Carl Hoag of Ilion, and Deown Hoag and his wife, Nicole, of Ilion; three daughters, Lisa Evans of Ilion, Denise Hoag of Fultonville, and Krystalea Nestle and her husband, Bryan, of VanHornesville; his twin brother, Robert Hoag and his companion, Angie Hale, of Rome; a sister, Carol Peplinski and her husband, Bernie, of Cedarville; four grandchildren, Shailynne Hoag, Dylan Evans, Jared Evans, and Avery Nestle; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 9, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home Inc., 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. A funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Reverend Christine Mitchell officiating.
