RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Richard E. Perry, Sr. of Hyder Road, succumbed to death after a long illness on January 15, 2025 .
He was born in Exeter, New York in 1945 to Floyd S. Perry and Cora L. Carr.
He was predeceased by his parents Floyd S. and Cora L. Carr-Perry, a son Richard E. Perry, Jr., by four brothers; Floyd Jr., Claude, Robert and Clyde Perry, two sisters Marjorie Van Dyke and Jean Edick.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years Mary who would marry him all over again, daughters Frances Bakhuizen and her husband Fred of Mount Vision, and Barbara Leyard of Richfield Springs, three grandchildren Elizabeth Bakhuizen, Christopher Bakhuizen and Benjamin Leyard, two sisters Shirley Pederson of Mohawk and Patricia Catlin of Waterville, a brother Jesse Perry of Mount Vision, many nieces, nephews and cousin as well as many friends who loved him.
Dick retired from Otsego County Highway Department where he worked as a driver and laborer for thirty-one years. He loved to work with his hands making wind chimes for family and friends. He was a bee-keeper, welder, mechanic, sportsman, gardener, and heavy equipment operator. He never met a stranger and would have people laughing where ever he went to brighten their day. Friend or not he tried to help everyone he could in anyway possible.
A graveside service will be held on Monday May5th at 1:30pm in Hartwick Village Cemetery.
