R ICHFIELD SPRINGS -Robert W Dufloe , age 95, of Richfield Springs, passed away peacefully at David and Michele Schoellig's home on Monday afternoon, February 6, 2023.
Robert was born September 22, 1927, in Richfield Springs, the only son of the late Frank and Frances (Jones) Dufloe . He was raised and educated in Richfield Springs, graduating class of 1945 .
During World War II, Robert served our nation in the United States Merchant Marines.
On January 1, 1949, Robert married Helen Emrich in the Dutch Reformed Church, Herkimer, a blessed and loving union of sixty years until her passing on February 13, 2009.
Robert worked with his father in the electrical business, forming Frank Dufloe and Son. He retired in 1994.
Robert has a strong sense of community, he served as a Village Trustee and was instrumental in obtaining a grant to upgrade the Village water and gas lines. Robert joined the Richfield Springs Fire Department in 1948, serving as its Chief, President and First Aid Squad member. He was an exempt fireman.
Bob and Helen had the pleasure of attending the inauguration of Governor Nelson Rockefeller.
Robert and Helen were major donors to the Richfield Springs Medical Center when it was built.
Robert was a 69 year member and Past Master of the Richfield Springs Masonic Lodge No. 482 F&AM, later merging with Winfield Masonic Lodge No. 581 F&AM. Robert was a member of the Otsego-Hartwick-Arbutus Chapter No. 201 Order of Eastern Star.
Mr. Dufloe was the last surviving Charter Member of the Richfield Sportsman's Club. He also served as the Richfield Sportsman's Clubs delegate to the Otsego County Federation of Sportsman's Clubs, for many years.
Bob loved outdoor sporting, he was a member of the Watauga Club, a hunting lodge in Arietta in the heart of the Adirondacks. He had a NYS Lifetime hunting and fishing License. He went on many big game hunting trips to Northern Quebec for caribou, New f oundland for moose and caribou and to Wyoming for elk, mule deer and antelope. He hunted and fished locally with many friends.
Robert is survived by a daughter-in-law, Linda Dufloe of Oswego, a granddaughter, Trisha Tynan, two great granddaughters, Peyton and Kendall of Oswego and two special friends, David and Michele Schoellig of Garrattsville , who cared for him i n his later years .
Besides his parents and wife, Helen, he was preceded in death by his son, William Dufloe in 2006.
A Masonic Funeral Service accorded by Winfield Masonic Lodge No. 581 F&AM for Mr. Dufloe will take place on Monday May 22 nd at 11:00am in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs. All are welcome to this Masonic
