Robert F. Fahey

RICHFIELD SPRINGS -Robert Francis Fahey "Bob" age 86 passed away peacefully on Thursday morning February 27, 2020 in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown.  He had the peace and comfort of his loving family at his side.  Bob was born on January 29, 1934 in Cooperstown, son of the late Francis Joseph and Mildred Smith Fahey.  A lifelong area resident he was raised and graduated from VanHornesville High School with the class of 1952.  Upon completing high school he enlisted with the US Air Force where he served four years before being Honorably Discharged in 1956.  On June 23, 1979 he was united in marriage to the former Joan Pugh in the Mohawk United Methodist Church.  Mr. Fahey at one time worked for Beadle's Gas Station in Richfield Springs, showed houses for Bruce Ward Real Estate and for Twenty years was a custodian at Owen D. Young Central School, retiring in 1995.  Bob had a unique interest in automobiles, and for twenty-four years worked with his partner Bill VanSpanje at Bill's Auto Auction on US Highway # 20 in Richfield Springs.  Mr. Fahey had a strong faith in God and attended VanHornesville United Methodist Church and more recently the Church of Christ Uniting in Richfield Springs.  He was a member of The Richfield Springs American Legion Post # 616.  To all who knew him, will never forget a kind, caring and hardworking man who was always there to help while looking for nothing in return.  He will be sadly missed by his many friends and family especially his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving him are his devoted wife of forty years Joan, two daughters, Debra Plows and her husband Edward of Cherry Valley, Sheila Oldick and her husband James of Richfield Springs,  a step-daughter, Suzanne Sproles of Worthington, KY, two brothers, Bernard Fahey and his wife Janie of VanHornesville, Donald Fahey and his wife Vanetta of Jordanville, two sisters, Marjorie Geukes of Mesick, MI, Jean Huckabone of Springfield Center, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, several niece, nephews and cousins.  Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his son Edward R. Fahey in November of 2018, two brother-in-law's John Geukes and Douglas Huckabone.

Calling hours for Mr. Fahey will be on Thursday from 4:00 until 6:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home. 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs.  A Funeral service will follow immediately after at 6:00pm with Pastor Alan Miller officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the United States Air Force Military Honor Guard.  The family wishes to thank the 4 ^th floor nurses and staff at Bassett Medical Center for the care and compassion shown to Bob during his time there.
