BURLINGTON FLATTS -Robert Alan Geywits, age 77, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Wednesday morning, August 24, 2022, in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown.  He was born on July 20, 1945, in Ilion, son of the late Stewart J. and Rose M. (Lucas) Geywits.  A lifelong area resident, he was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School.  On February 16, 1966 he was inducted into the US Army; he served during the Vietnam War with 585 th Transportation Company and was honorably discharged on February 15, 1972 attaining the rank of Sergeant.  After his military service he returned home and at one point started his own auto body repair business.  He later worked at Miller Fuel Company in Edmeston and then for Chuck's Towing in Richfield Springs.  Before he retired in 2018 he was employed at Cooperstown Dream Park.

In his leisure time he enjoyed repairing cars and watching TV.  To all who knew Rob will never forget a strong man with a free spirit and happy go lucky.  He was always there to help people while looking for nothing in return.  To quote him "People want someone to be pleasant and take care of what they need. That's what I try to do."  Rob Geywits will be sadly missed by his many friends and family.

He is survived by his son, Jason Geywits of Burlington Flatts, one brother Ronald Geywits of Delhi, two grandchildren, Hunter and Noah Geywits and two nephews Jimmy Geywits and Christopher. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Misty.  Military Honors provided by the US Army will be held on Saturday, Sept. 3 rd at the Richfield Springs Veterans Club starting at 2:00 pm.  A celebration of life will follow in the Vets Club until 5:00 pm.  Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.  Envelopes will be available at the club.  Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.
