Robert Louis Brown

Robert Louis Brown age 83 of Trumansburg, formerly of Herkimer passed away on Monday morning January 25, 2016 in Cayuga Ridge Extended Care Facility, Ithaca. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side. He was born on March 24, 1932 in Sauquoit, son of the late Charles and Edith Edwards Brown. A lifelong area resident he was raised in Sauquoit and was a graduate Sauquoit Valley Central School. For many years Mr. Brown was a self-employed carpenter before going to work for Nichol's Department Store serving as Home Center Manager in both Herkimer and New Hartford Store locations until they closed. He then went to work for Oneida County Boiler until his retirement. A devoted country music lover, he was a Dee Jay on the Ho-Down Country Jamboree on WTV 3 in Utica and WAV 5 in Canajoharie. He rotated weekends being the Dee Jay with Don Vedders. Bob put his natural carpentry skills to use, building the back ground sets for the jamboree programs. His greatest joy was meeting many of the famous country singers. On August 31, 1985 he was united in marriage with the former Doris Mead in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. He attended Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church until they moved to Trumansburg in 2012. In his leisure time he enjoyed playing cards and being surrounded by his many friends and family, especially his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving is his devoted wife of thirty years Doris, a daughter Pamela Arroyo of Lorain, OH, three sons, Stephen Brown (Barbara) of Ilion, Randy Brown (Fawn) of St. Johnsville, Kelly Brown (Jackie) of Herkimer, two step-sons, Rodney Shaut (Connie) of Livingston, TX, Dennis Shaut (Becky) of Herkimer, step-daughter, Gale Miller of Trumansburg, a step-daughter-in-law, Tami Shaut of Ilion, fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Beside his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers, six sisters and a step-son, Jeffrey Shaut.
Calling hours for Mr. Brown will be on Friday from 4:00 until 6:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. A funeral service will follow immediately after with Reverend Jill Farnham officiating. Interment in Mohawk Cemetery will be later this spring. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
