RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Robert William Pope, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at Wynn Hospital, Utica, surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born on November 14, 1936, on the family farm in Brookfield, son of the late Albert F. and Elizabeth S. (Walrath) Pope, Sr. He was educated in Brookfield and helped on farms until he was 19 years old. He then went to work for Duofold Manufacturing, where he worked for 11 years. In 1995, he retired from Remington Arms after 29 years of dedicated service. He proudly served on the Remington Fire Brigade during that time.
Robert enjoyed the outdoors, walking in the woods, hunting, spending time with his family and traveling. However, he is best known for tinkering in his garage and serving his neighborhood. If you needed something fixed, or your lawn mowed, Bob was the man to call. He especially loved working with the family at Pinehurst Estate. He enjoyed being involved in the Mohawk Valley AG Toy Club, where he made many friends.
He will be remembered for his kindness in assisting anyone who needed help. He will be sadly missed.
Surviving are his three sons, William (Susan) Pope of Herkimer, Robert (Kristine Anne) Pope of San Antonio, TX, and Charles Pope of Herkimer. His beloved grandchildren, Katheryn and Alexandrya, Zackary (Courtney) and Jessica (Jacob), and Emma. Along with seven great- grandchildren, four sisters Eleanor Cory, Mary Wilson, Joan Race and Ruth Pope, and a brother John (Elaine) Pope. He is predeceased by his parents, four brothers, Albert Jr., Lawrence, Kenneth and Donald Pope.
The family of Robert would like to thank the ER and ICU staff at Wynn Hospital, Bassett Healthcare nurses, for their guidance and care at home, Constance (Connie) Pope, who is a special sister in law, for all of her care, guidance and life long friendship.
From his granddaughters (Katie and Allie), we know that Poppy would have wanted to give a special thank you to Susan (Sue) Pope, who is like a daughter to him, for her love and care.
"Love ya, be good".
