Ruth A. Gretton-Shareef

RICHFIELD SPRINGS  – Ruth A. Gretton-Shareef age 98 of Thurston Hill Road, Richfield Springs, passed away peacefully on Saturday May 22, 2021 in Cooperstown Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.

She was born May 4, 1923 in Rochester, a daughter to the late Dr. Kenneth Wayne and Maude Albright Moore. She was raised and educated in Brockport, and a graduate of Brockport High School. She attended St. Lawrence University, Syracuse University, and earned a Master's Degree in Education from SUNY Brockport. She was first and foremost a dedicated homemaker devoted to her family, and later in life she taught reading in the Churchville Central School district, retiring in 1986. Ruth was also devoted to providing opportunities for the underserved in her community. She first married Avery T. Gretton, who died in 1984. She later married Museyb Shareef. Museyb and Ruth moved to Richfield Springs in 1987 from the Brockport area.

Ruth enjoyed bird watching, gardening, reading books, bicycling and crossword puzzles. She was a lifelong lover of music, both performing and teaching. She lived a long wonderful life making many friends. She will be surely missed by all.

Surviving are her husband Museyb, two sons Geoffrey B. Gretton and his wife Dorothy Hoskins of Honeoye Falls, Avery T. Gretton III and his wife Denise of Shavertown, Pennsylvania, a daughter Rebecca Gretton of Richfield Springs, two grandchildren Matthew Fien-Gretton and Dana Gretton and one great-grandchild Juniper Anne Fien-Gretton.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Wayne Kenneth Moore.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gretton-Shareef will be private and at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs.
