Shirley Brown Glasser

Shirley Brown Glasser of Richfield Springs passed away on July 16, 2015 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 12, 1931 in Monticello, daughter of the late Ward and Hazel Brown. She received her education at Richfield Springs Central School and was first employed at Eastwood Dry Cleaners on Lake Street. In 1954 she met the love of her life, Bill Glasser, a NY State Trooper who stopped by the dry cleaners weekly to get his uniforms cleaned. On July 17, 1954, they were married and settled on Church Street in the Village of Richfield Springs where they spent the next 55 years together raising their family. After raising her family, Shirley was employed by the Richfield Springs Central School for 27 ½ years and retired as Elementary Library Assistant. Shirley had passion for life. Her family and friends always came first. She was anxiously awaiting and planning for the arrival of her fifth great grandchild in August. Shirley will be greatly missed. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Melanie Bruce and her husband Don, of Richfield Springs, a son, William Glasser, Jr. of Derby, granddaughter, Amanda Matlack and her husband Adrian, of West Henrietta, and grandson, Jason Bartl and his wife Trista of Richfield Springs. Also surviving are four great grandchildren, Joseph Matlack, Hannah Bartl, John Bartl and Jason Bartl, a very special nephew, Robert Fenton and his wife Donna, of Plano Texas, nephew Robert Sharkey and his wife Mary, of Mount Upton, great nephew, Robert Fenton, Jr. and wife, Paula of Dallas, Texas, great nephew, Theodore Sharkey of Mount Upton, her close friends, Connie and Raymond Nassar, of Richfield Springs, and her beloved dog, Patti. She was predeceased by her husband, William Glasser, brother, Harold Brown, and sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Ward Fenton. Calling hours will on Sunda y, July 19 from 2-4, be at the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. A graveside committal service will be on Monday, July 20 at 10:30 am at Schulyer Lake Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Richfield Springs Church of Christ United in Shirley's memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
