Shirley A. Mcconnell

RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Shirley A. McConnell, age 89, of State Highway 28, passed away on Saturday July 5, 2025 in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown.

Shirley was born April 1, 1936 in Mohawk, a daughter to the late George F. and Vera F. Harter Schaeffer. She was raised and educated in Mohawk graduating from Mohawk High School. At one time she lived in Mohawk and Frankfort later moving to Richfield Springs in 1982. On February 14, 1982 she married Edward McConnell in the Mohawk Reformed Church a blessed union of fifteen years until his passing on June 8, 1997. In her later years she shared her life in a wonderful relationship with Jerry Gower. For many years Shirley was a bookkeeper with General Electric in the Broad Street plant in Utica retiring in 1984.

Shirley loved horses, she enjoyed dining at the Tally Ho but she was definitely a homebody at heart.

She was a friend to many and will never be forgotten.

Surviving her is her companion Jerry Gower, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents she was preceded by her sister Dawanda Davis in 2020.

Funeral services for Shirley will be private.
