HERKIMER – Virginia E. Stocking, age 90, formerly of Richfield Springs, passed away on Friday morning, February 2, 2024, at Valley Health Services in Herkimer.
She was born on July 22, 1933 in Willsboro, NY, a daughter to the late Oakley Tero and Mildred Cross. She was raised and educated in Willsboro. On December 25, 1951 she married David E. Stocking in St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Springfield Center. After spending many years living throughout the US as a military wife, she and David relocated to Richfield Springs in 1972.
Virginia was a big fan of Elvis Presley and enjoyed watching her favorite soap opera Days of Our Lives. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and especially all of her grandchildren. For many years she was an avid Nintendo player. She also enjoyed playing dice with whomever was willing. She was a proud lifelong member of the Jehovah's Witnesses congregation. She could light up a room with her smile and beautiful blue eyes.
Surviving her are her two daughters; Terri Morton and her husband Mike of Burlington Flats and Cheryl Coones and her husband Harry of Schuyler Lake, seven grandchildren: Sonya Buck, Heather Thomas, Tamara Hynes, Trista Bartl, Jolene Stocking, Peyton Coones, and Nicole Coones-Oden, fifteen great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; David E. Stocking, three sons; William O. Stocking, David A. Stocking, and Dusty L. Stocking, a daughter-in-law, Deborah A. Stocking, two grandsons, David A. Stocking Jr. and Michael A. Morton, a brother Norman Tero, and two sisters; Mary Forbes and Ruth St. Peter.
Calling hours for Mrs. Stocking will be on Tuesday February 6th from 2:00-4:00 pm, with funeral service to follow immediately at 4:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs.
